The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Thus, your transgressions and sins you have carried, declares the Lord. The Lord speaks to Adonai, and I shall act towards you as you have done, for you have scorned an oath by violating my covenant. The law inherently contained an oath aimed at those who disobey it; He commanded it to be declared to the six tribes situated on Mount Gerizim, and to all the people, as if affirming this oath of the law and consenting to it with an "Amen" (Deuteronomy 27:13-26). Therefore, God proclaims, since you have shown no reverence for the oath but have boldly breached my covenant, gather the hands of these men. Following correction comes the promise of blessings.
