The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Your iniquities will come upon you, and you will bear the weight of the sins of your thoughts, and you will recognize that I am the Lord. You will reap the consequences of your wrongdoing because you did not accept it out of necessity, but rather out of your own will and desire. From the judgment you will receive, there will emerge a significant benefit—the understanding of my authority. May God grant us the grace to also derive good from this season of hardship, having learned these truths, experiencing the goodness of God, detesting the unworthiness within our hearts, and daily renewing our memory of God. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, may we grow in our love for God as we anticipate the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. To Him be glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
