Theodoret of Cyrus
My eternal one. Even though you have disregarded the agreements made with me, this will not lead me to abandon you completely; rather, having granted you wisdom through discipline and shown you kindness, I will remember the promises made to you in your youth. I will establish My covenant as a perpetual commitment; it is not a covenant of the law, but one of grace; it does not stem from Moses, but is rooted in the ministry of the apostles. The former was temporary, whereas this one is everlasting.

This assurance comes through the words of the prophet Jeremiah, who declares, I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I led them out of Egypt; for they did not remain faithful to My covenant, and I turned away from them (Jeremiah 31:31-32). Instead, I will create a new covenant: I will place My laws in their minds and write them on their hearts (Jeremiah 31:33). The same promise of covenant is affirmed here.
