One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

At the outset of your efforts, and among your community, when your children are made to pass through the flames, you have tainted yourselves in all your thoughts, even to this very day. Shall I respond to you, O house of Israel? If I do respond, and if these matters weigh upon your hearts—amid all the sinful and unrighteous acts present among you. Despite knowing what I have laid before you, you still dare to undertake these actions, holding onto the hope that you will receive a response from Me. Do not delude yourselves; it is futile to expect answers to your inquiries while you engage in such wrongdoing. Rather, I urge you through your actions to abandon this expectation. I have reiterated this when I said, "And if these things come upon your spirit."
