And it shall not come to pass that which you envision, you who declare, "We shall be like the nations and like the tribes of the earth, serving wood and stone." As I live, declares the Lord God, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with great wrath will I reign over you. This means: Do not think that your blasphemous thoughts about Me can come to fruition. You claim that you do not wish to be under the Lord’s authority or to be identified as His people, but rather to be like all the nations of the earth, each living according to its own desires to honor wood and stone and to worship idols; thus, we will belong to the many nations. In response, God answers and swears by Himself: I will not abandon you or despise you, as masters often do with runaway servants.

Instead, I shall restore you by My might, and with outstretched arms and great fury I will bring you back to your rightful service and reign over you, so that whether you desire it or not, you will have Me as your King and experience the anger of that Monarch whose goodness you have rejected.
