I will bring ruin upon them, so that they may recognize My sovereignty as the Lord. This echoes the words spoken by the revered David: And I will allow them to follow the inclinations of their hearts; they shall proceed according to their own desires (Psalm 80:13). Noticing that they were not profiting from My guidance, I permitted them to pursue their own reasoning, finding it intolerable to be directed by My wisdom. He conveys the same idea here, stating, And I will pollute them with their offerings.
