I will lead you into the desolate places among the people, and there I will confront you directly. Just as I judged your ancestors in the wilderness of Egypt, so shall I also judge you, declares the Lord God. He refers to the desolate places of humanity as the wilderness of the nations, which had no knowledge of the divine in times past. This indicates that when righteousness is revealed to the Gentiles, the Jews, confronted by the transformation evident in the formerly wicked nations, will turn away from idol worship. The phrase "And I will judge with you face to face" signifies correction through the very actions themselves.

In that time, actions will testify and hold accountable your disobedient and lawless hearts, highlighting the obedience found among the nations who once lacked true godliness. Thus, just as I brought total destruction upon your forebears in the wilderness, I will also bring judgment upon you. He elucidated this further with the following words:
