2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

He declares that He will not allow you to be among the nations and remain in eternal bondage; instead, I will rescue you from the nations and gather you from the lands where your enemies have scattered you, reducing you to servitude. My intention in this is not to destroy or annihilate you but to reign as your Sovereign. This illustrates that even in what some might consider the harshness of the Creator, there is an expression of divine goodness. For despite His wrath and revealed severity, He pours out His fury to draw back those who have turned to the oppressive rule of demons.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will remove you from among the nations and gather you from the lands where you have been dispersed, using my mighty hand and great power, along with a consuming fire. First, I will liberate you from the bondage you currently endure and lead you back to your original homeland.
