Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

You will recognize that I am the Lord when I lead you into the land of Israel, which I solemnly promised to your ancestors. They forfeited this blessing due to their own shortcomings, while you have been granted it, not because of your own righteousness, but solely through my grace.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

He declared, I will be set apart rather than exalted; for all will gain immensely by observing both my blessings and yours, recognizing the impotence of the so-called deities and witnessing my might in granting you favor.
