Ezekiel 38:23Meaning & Commentary from the Church Fathers

I will instill in them the terror of the sword upon all my hills, declares the Lord Sovereign. Following the quake that has come before, I will send upon them, says God, a sense of fear and dread from their foes, causing them to flee in confusion, failing to recognize each other, and they will begin to turn against one another. This was foretold when it was said, A man’s sword shall be against his brother, and I will judge him with death and blood. Not only will they bring destruction upon themselves, but I will strike them from above. I will pour forth floods and hailstones, and fire and brimstone upon them and all their companions. And I will be exalted, honored, and consecrated; I will be known among many nations, and they will recognize that I am the Lord. When they face ruin, those who have not known me will come to understand my might, and they will revere my sovereignty.
