You have brought this upon yourself through your unfaithfulness, as you engaged in immoral acts by pursuing the desires of others and corrupted your own thoughts. You have followed the practices of the nations around you, who, led by their own misguided ideas, have created evil. Not only have you mirrored the wrongdoing of these other nations, but you have also followed the path of your sister. Therefore, I will hand her cup to you. Just as Samaria has endured, so shall you endure. For the cup signifies judgment; it will cause those who partake of it to fall into a deep slumber and become inebriated.
