Jerome of Stridon
For the Lord God declares: Indeed, I will place you in the hands of those you have despised, in the power of those whose ways your soul has grown weary of. They will treat you with animosity and strip away everything you have earned, leaving you exposed and filled with disgrace, revealing the shame of your adulteries. Your transgressions and unfaithfulness have led you to this predicament; you have strayed after the nations, contaminating yourself with their idols. You have followed the path of your sister; therefore, I will hand her cup to you. Thus says the Lord God: you will drink deeply and widely from your sister's cup, and you will be the subject of mockery because of its vastness.
