Theodoret of Cyrus
He referred to the cup as deep due to the magnitude of the disaster and wide because it spanned seventy years, reflecting the desolation endured by the city. When he named it a cup of consumption, he further stated, "Thou shalt exhaust it," given that Jerusalem had experienced its ultimate siege. He also declared, "Thou shalt consume the loins of it," signifying the intense distress it faced, and "thou shalt tear away thy teats," reflecting the repentance that ensued after the calamity. He declared, "And thy feasts, and thy new-months will I turn away," for he has spoken, saith the Lord to Adonai. "I will destroy every public assembly and all joy, and I will bring an end to laughter," for I am the true and righteous Lord.
