Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

You have forgotten the days of your youth and have caused me sorrow through your actions; see, I have placed your conduct upon you, declares the Sovereign Lord. The weight of these troubles is a result of your own choices, says God, choosing not to remind you of who you were and what you have transformed into—how I took you from a state of poverty, insignificance, and ignorance and made you renowned and esteemed. Yet you have committed evil in line with your transgressions. You have not yet faced the full consequences that your sins warrant; when measured against your wrongdoing, the punishment you have experienced is but a fraction.
