Theodoret of Cyrus
The people inquired of me, says the prophet, Will you not inform us about the actions you are taking? And I responded, The word of the Lord has come to me, declaring, Speak to the house of Israel, and say, Thus says the Lord God: Take note, I will desecrate My sacred things, the glory of your might, the hopes of your hearts, and they will not save your lives; your sons and daughters, whom you abandon, will perish by the sword. You will act as I have done: you will find no comfort in their words, nor shall you partake of the sustenance provided by others, nor will there be hair upon your heads or shoes upon your feet; you shall not be distressed, nor shall you shed tears, nor remain steadfast in your sins, nor shall you offer solace to any of your brethren.

And Ezekiel will mourn in astonishment, My actions will mirror those I have taken: when these events unfold, you will come to recognize that I am the Lord God. By my deeds, He states, I have demonstrated prophecy, and I have declared the future through myself. Just as when my beloved's life ceased, I refrained from performing the customary rites of mourning; I did not grieve, shed tears, or adopt an appearance of sorrow, so too shall you refrain from mourning when your sons and daughters are slain and the holy temple you have exalted, now despoiled by the invasion of wicked foes, shall be profaned. Additionally, you shall endure countless other hardships— You will not be allowed to mourn, nor engage in the customary acts of grief, such as shaving your head or removing your footwear, nor will you find relief from sorrow through tears, nor partake of comforting food, nor do any of the usual practices, and you will recall what the Prophet did. By understanding the culmination of these events, you will realize that the Prophet served as a sign for you, revealing the future through his actions.
