Theodoret of Cyrus
I will restore the captives from Egypt and establish them in the land of Paphur. They will also be taken to the region of Othonud. This promise of liberation indicates the eventual insignificance of this empire. Its power shall be humbled considerably, even surpassing the humility of all earthly authorities, so that no one might elevate themselves above others; I will assume a lowly position to prevent the multitude from dominating among the nations. The fulfillment of this prophecy is evident in historical events. The Egyptian realm, which faced destruction at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, experienced a revival under Cyrus the Persian, yet it never regained its former strength. Shortly thereafter, Cambyses, who was Cyrus's son, again vanquished it, placing it under his control and imposing tribute upon it. Subsequently, following the complete end of Egyptian rulers, the region came under the dominion of Macedonian kings.
