Theodoret of Cyrus
I will restore the exiled people of Egypt and establish them in the territory of Paphur. Additionally, I will bring back the captives from Egypt and settle them in the land of Paphur, where they were taken to the region of Othonud. This promise of liberation from captivity also foreshadows the eventual diminishment of this kingdom. Its authority will be greatly reduced: it shall be humbler than all other powers, so that no man may rise exalted above others; I will choose to be lowly, lest the nations become numerous against me. The accuracy of this prophecy is evidenced by historical events. The Egyptian empire, which Nebuchadnezzar laid waste, was revived under Cyrus the Persian, yet it never regained its former strength.

Shortly thereafter, Kambiz, the son of Cyrus, once again devastated Egypt, bringing it under his control and imposing tribute upon it. In this process, following the complete end of the Egyptian monarchs, Egypt came to be ruled by the kings of Macedon.
