The Prophet spoke these words regarding Zedekiah, which occurred six years prior. Nebuchadnezzar, when forming an alliance with Zedekiah, demanded the most severe oaths from him to uphold the agreement; however, Zedekiah soon violated these promises. The Prophet foretold that upon his ascension to kingship, he would seize hold of all the wealthy and influential individuals. The accounts in the Fourth Book of Kings, the Second Book of Chronicles, and the esteemed Prophet Jeremiah reveal these events. The Prophet also indicates that the king of Babylon seeks to undermine the kingdom, ensuring its subjugation and preventing any chance of insurrection.
