This could have come to pass had the Jews wished it so. However, their fierce opposition to the Lord led them to thwart the fulfillment of the prophecy. Thus, the prophecy remained intact and true, for the Almighty had already spoken through the Prophet Jeremiah, declaring, "I will make a river for the tongue and the kingdom at the end, that I may raise it up and plant it. And they shall do evil before Me, that will not hearken unto My voice: and I will repent of the good things which I have spoken to them to do" (Jeremiah 18:9, 10). Consequently, the Jews bear responsibility for rejecting the blessings foretold in the prophecy.
