The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The Gentiles initially believed that the Jews were overpowered by their foes due to My vulnerability. They surmised that My frailty led to the Jews' defeat and subjugation, and as they reflected on their own sinful ways, they started to reproach Me, assuming that I took delight in such injustices and in referring to so many unrighteous individuals as My people. Yet, I remember them for their own benefit.
