One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

For this reason, the Lord declares to Adonai: I will bring back the captives of Jacob and show compassion to the house of Israel, rejoicing for the sake of My holy name. Ezekiel 39:26. They will remove their disgrace and all their transgressions against Me, and when they inhabit their land in tranquility, there will be no fear. (27). I will return their lips, gathering them from their lands. They will cast off their iniquities and acknowledge the wrongs they committed against Me, realizing that their afflictions stemmed from their own actions and that their unrighteousness brought upon their shame. However, the Lord states that they will reflect on these realities upon their return to their land and the elimination of their adversaries. At that time, My holiness will be evidenced among them; when My power is revealed, all will honor Me for My concern for the people of Israel.
