Theodoret of Cyrus

For this reason, the Lord speaks to Adonai: I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and show compassion to the house of Israel, and I will rejoice for the sake of My holy name, as stated in Ezekiel 39:26. They will remove their disgrace, along with all their wickedness, and all the wrongs they have committed against Me, as they live peacefully in their land without fear (27). When I gather them from the lands where they have been scattered, their sins and all their iniquities will be forgiven. This suffering will lead them to reflect on how they may have brought this upon themselves due to their transgressions, which resulted in their shame. God assures that they will recognize these truths upon returning to their homeland and being freed from their enemies. Then I will be honored among them, as My power is revealed, and all will praise Me for My protection of the Israelites.
