Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

God once more instructs the prophet to deliver a message regarding Gog and the nations allied with him, for, by divine allowance, they will come from the utmost north to face just retribution for their wickedness. He also indicates their impending helplessness. For He declares, I will pull your bow out of your left hand, and your arrows out of your right hand, Ezekiel 39:4 and I will strike you on the mountains of Israel, and you will fall, along with all those around you, as well as many Gentiles who are with you; that is, I will weaken your power, causing the weapon you hold to drop. Furthermore, God proclaims that Gog will be delivered to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts.
