Jerome of Stridon
When we consider the period from the fifth year of King Jechoniah's exile to the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, a span of three years elapses until Nebuchadnezzar's siege of Jerusalem. It is therefore appropriately declared: I will soon unleash my wrath upon you. I will not reveal to you what lies ahead nor forewarn you of distant threats; rather, my fury will be enacted upon you without delay. This wrath is just, meant to invert your ways and make you aware of your own abominations. Additionally, we can reflect on the final captivity following the crucifixion of Christ, when their fate was sealed, and sin rose against them. It is fulfilled as it is written: Now wrath shall rest upon them to the end (1 Thess. 2:16).
