The incomprehensible nature of God's humanity leads Him to declare threats of punishment without executing them; however, when we disregard these warnings, we will eventually encounter their reality. This was similarly experienced by the Jews, who, upon hearing that the end was near, felt no fear of that conclusion. The Prophet refers to the ultimate calamity that strikes them as pure evil, describing their sinful entanglements as a web; for it is stated, ‘Every man is taken captive by his sins’ (Proverbs 5:22). In addition, Isaiah proclaims, ‘Woe to them that take hold of their sins as a long plague, and as a yoke of youth by the belt of their iniquity’ (Isaiah 5:18).
