The vessels referred to as flat bowls symbolize the purity of the hearts of the innocent, those who lack the ability to hide dishonest thoughts and consistently express their true feelings openly. The knives were employed to cut and portion the offerings accurately, ensuring that once the sacrifice was prepared, a portion would be consumed by fire upon the altar while another portion would be given to the priests and Levites performing the rite. These knives represent those within the Church who possess the gift of discernment, capable of recognizing the precious gift of salvation found in Christ. The chalices, or drinking vessels, metaphorically reflect those who are often filled with an overwhelming love that ignites within them.
