The dishes are shallow bowls, symbolizing the purity of the hearts of those who are simple and unpretentious, unable to mask their deceitful thoughts, and who articulate their feelings candidly. The knives served to slice and partition the offerings into appropriate portions, ensuring that after the sacrificial rites, part would be consumed by fire on the altar, while another portion would be given to the priests and Levites involved in the offering. These knives represent those within the Church endowed with the gift of discernment, who understand profoundly the sacrifice of salvation, specifically Christ. The chalices, or drinking vessels, metaphorically depict individuals who are often filled with the divine love that fervently resides within them.
