Cyrill of Alexandria
The third aspect pertains to "extraction" or "deliverance" and "reconciliation."
She bore also a third: whom she called Sela. After whose birth, she ceased to bear any more.
2 Church Fathers comment on this verse
The third aspect pertains to "extraction" or "deliverance" and "reconciliation."
The term in question is a Hebrew verb and not the name of a location (Hazbi). Akilah offered this interpretation (as he did not use the term ‘Hazbi’): ‘And she named him Selom. It happened that she ceased to give birth after bringing forth Selom.’ This indicates that after the birth of Selom, she no longer bore children. Therefore, the term Hazbi should not be understood as referring to a specific place, but rather to a falsehood. This is further supported by the passage in Scripture that states, 'The work of the olive tree will be sown' (Hab. 3:17), meaning that the olive tree will not produce fruit.
