One Church Father comments on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

Shall we continue the account of Joseph today and reflect on how this remarkable individual, having been granted authority over all of Egypt, skillfully brought peace to its people? It is written, "He went out from the face of Pharaoh, and passed through all the land of Egypt." During seven years of abundance, the land yielded grain in overwhelming quantities, and he stored away bread in vast amounts, comparable to the sand by the sea. With full power from the sovereign, he collected the harvest and secured it in cities, thus ensuring ample provisions for the impending famine. Observe the reward this virtuous man received for his steadfastness, patience, and other noble qualities, as he transitioned from prison to the palace of the king.
