The Church Fathers on this verse

2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

John Chrysostom

4th centuryChurch Father

It is evident what causes him the greatest sorrow: to suffer mockery from individuals whose actions lead to their own ruin. He observes that "thieves," "evildoers," "bandits," and "criminals" have turned us into their entertainment and topic of discussion (cf. Job 30:5).

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

At that time, he found himself the subject of mockery among the most humble of people, and his faith in God had transformed him: the outcomes he faced were the complete antithesis of what one might have anticipated.
