The Lord's displeasure, expressed in His declaration that they would not enter the land they had scorned, served as a consequence of their disbelief (Num. 14:29). Yet, their children and wives, who remained faithful and were innocent due to their age and gender, were destined to inherit the promised land. Therefore, all those aged twenty and above perished in the wilderness, while the punishment of others was postponed. However, those who accompanied Jesus and incited the crowd faced immediate judgment from the Lord (Num. 14:37). Jesus and Caleb (Num. 14:6) entered the promised land alongside the innocent due to their age and gender. Thus, the nobler faction chose glory over mere salvation, while the lesser group valued salvation above honor. Ultimately, God's judgment validated the righteousness of those who esteemed honor above possessions, condemning those who prioritized what appeared necessary for salvation but overlooked the value of honor.

The account reveals that the Israelites, following a seven-year conflict, allocated the land among themselves. Caleb recounted, "Forty years old was I when Moses, the servant of the Lord, sent me from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land... And now, the Lord has sustained me, as He promised; this is the fifty-fifth year since the Lord spoke to Moses" (Num. 14:7, 10). After God’s judgment on the six hundred thousand, the Israelites spent thirty-eight years in the desert. Consequently, there remain seven years out of the expected forty-five. This was also prophesied by the Lord of Hosts through Moses, stating that when the Lord your God brings you into the land He pledged to your ancestors, "after seven years... read this law before all the people" (Deuteronomy 31:10-11).
