What significance can we draw from Joshua's statement when he recounts the actions of the Lord on behalf of Israel, specifically mentioning: I sent hornets before you, which drove them away from you, the two kings of the Amorites? A parallel to this can also be found in the book of the Wisdom of Solomon (See Prem. 12:8), yet it remains challenging to uncover a clear explanation. One interpretation may view the hornets as a metaphor for the intense fear that overwhelmed them, spurred by the pervasive rumors that caused the two kings to flee. Alternatively, the hornets might symbolize the unseen heavenly spirits, referred to in Psalms as an embassy of evil angels (Psalms 77:49). Nonetheless, some may argue that not every event that transpired has been documented, suggesting that the occurrence of the hornets is grounded in historical fact, thus understanding this reference as relating to the genuine hornets.
