Jesus, the guide of the Israelites, offers encouragement to the people that they will triumph over the land of the Amorites and other nations. In these matters, you can be confident that the Lord who resides within you and empowers you will drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites from before you. The defeat of the Amorites occurred during Moses' lifetime when Zion, the king of the Amorites, and Og, the king of Bashan, were captured and executed. Israel struck down Zion with the sword and took possession of his territory. They dealt with Og, king of Bashan, in the same manner as they had with Zion, king of the Amorites (Num. 21:24, 34).

EXPLANATION. An examination of the land of Canaan reveals that the territory of the Amorites was divided into two regions: one known as the eastern Amorites, situated along the eastern bank of the Jordan River. This eastern domain was besieged and conquered by the Hebrews during Moses’ life. At this time, its ruler, Zion, king of Aporrea, lost both his throne and his life. The description of Palestine includes another region of Amorites that borders the Jordan River from the west. This western area was similarly captured by Joshua through military might during his lifetime. And He who consumes will act on your behalf against the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites.
