The town was occupied by the Gibeonites, known for their unwelcoming, harsh, and unforgiving nature, making it exceedingly difficult for them to host an outsider. It would have been preferable for this Levite to refrain from seeking refuge in Gibeah! To endure all the wrongs simultaneously, he initially could not find a place to stay.
