I will not grieve, like Jacob and David, for those who perish under the law; instead, I will embrace the promise of resurrection with Christ in the gospel. For the Jews, mourning is customary, but for Christians, it becomes a source of joy. Weeping may endure through the night, yet joy comes with the morning (Psalms 29:6). The darkness has passed, and the light of day has arrived (Rom. 13:12). In the same way, Moses is mourned as he dies, and Jesus is interred in a mountain without the customary rites or tears. We have summarized everything that can be said about biblical lamentation in the text that offered Paul solace while he was in Rome.
