One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

They labeled us as impure. Then, identifying those he considers impure, he proceeds with his message, stating: "Leave the unclean," "separate yourselves from them," "do not come near them," for they have angered God. "And they perished and were raised up," meaning that due to their transgressions, they lost God's assistance. "You shall reside among the nations, but not in the presence of the Lord," indicating that the Lord has completely abandoned us.
