The young men of his people crawled on the stagnant ground. The Prophet refers to these pathways and so-called streets as stagnations. They were stained with blood, devoid of strength, and huddled together in their garments. Hunger drove them to this desperation, while the foes surrounding them obstructed any chance for burial, leaving the fallen to be consumed by dogs. The Prophet further recounts the exchanges among the adversaries:
