Cyrill of Alexandria
The Lawgiver made a diligent effort to align standards of justice using measures and weights, which is entirely appropriate since a true and loving sense of justice assesses the essence of things in a certain manner. It evaluates equality more thoroughly and accurately than those who simply test a coin with scales. He seems to allocate to each object the most suitable portion, maintaining the integrity of precise equality without exceeding it or allowing a counterfeit reduction to mar its fullness. Hence, it states, “the measures... and the scales are righteous and the measure is righteous.” These, I believe, serve as metaphorical representations that illustrate how we can pursue true equality, revealing to us the understanding of justice.

It is essential to grasp that what is outlined in the law is measured and bounded by justice, while what is disclosed through Christ surpasses and transcends it. What is higher is rightly deemed good, that is, the glory of life in Christ.
