Nehemiah examines the various sections of the devastated city, reflecting on how each can be rebuilt. In a similar manner, spiritual leaders should awaken in the night hours to assess the condition of the holy Church while others slumber. This vigilance is essential to identify how the distortions and stains caused by sins can be purified and restored. The walls of Jerusalem lie in ruins, and the lives of the faithful are tainted by worldly and shameful desires. The gates have been consumed by fire, symbolizing how even those entrusted with guiding others to eternal life through teaching have become ensnared in the same ignorance, serving the fleeting aspects of this world.
