Atharoth Sophan, a city belonging to the tribe of Gad, along with Iazer, a settlement of the Amorites, is located approximately ten miles from Philadelphia, on the opposite bank of the Jordan. This marks the boundary of the tribe of Gad and reaches out to Aroer, which faces Rabbah. The city of Iazer is referenced by both Isaiah in his vision concerning Moab and by Jeremiah. It has been separated from the Levites and lies fifteen miles away from Heshbon. A significant river originates from here, ultimately flowing into the Jordan.
