2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

The teacher conveys to his young pupils the wise counsel passed down from his parents, cautioning them against the allure of foreign women, and urging them to seek joy and love within their own households. This pursuit should be undertaken without hesitation, for before God, all paths are open to humanity, and any transgression of His commandments is met with grave consequences.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

I found myself immersed in every wrongdoing, almost bringing upon myself every form of evil within the church and the assembly. Immorality is an offense that inevitably incites the outrage of a society that values the sanctity of family life. The one who commits such an act faces various forms of condemnation from upset fellow believers, including censure, social ostracism, and even capital punishment, which the entire congregation executed based on the decrees of the church, namely, the assembly of elders (Lev. 20:10, Deut. 22:22). I, too, was in jeopardy of experiencing the same consequences, laments the wayward individual reflecting on his conduct.
