2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

The teacher conveys to his young followers the valuable lessons passed down from his parents, cautioning them against the allure of foreign women, while encouraging them to discover joy and affection within their own families. He emphasizes the importance of embracing this path without reservation, as all of human conduct is known to God, and any transgression of His commandments carries grave consequences.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

The realization persists. The one who once lived without restraint, having gained understanding, will sorrowfully reflect on that time of indifference, when he not only ignored but also refused to heed the guidance and admonitions offered to him.
