Kraech refers to either clarity in meaning or elevation. One who reaches maturity understands that divine wisdom is the foundation of all creation, perceiving both its lofty aspects and the dynamics of descent and ascent within its journey. The renewed individual, focused solely on the elevated state, must introspect and seek to witness it personally, thus making it simpler to heed the call: simply approach it.

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

The wise individual listens to the very voice of Wisdom, who calls out to all humanity from elevated and populous locations. Aware that she possesses fullness of truth and significance, she reveals her divine attributes and works as the hypostatic Wisdom. She grants her adherents authority, riches, and abundance; she collaborates with God the Creator in the formation of the universe. Now, she extends an invitation for all to heed her teachings, assuring them of wisdom and happiness.

In verse 22, it is stated, "The Lord created me the beginning of his ways, in his works." The original Hebrew uses the term ‘kanani,’ meaning ‘acquired,’ suggesting that the Greek translation ‘εκτισε’ (created) could be more accurately rendered as ‘εκτησατο’ (acquired), as noted by the early Church Fathers such as Athanasius and Eusebius during their disputes with the Arians. This understanding is also supported in the translation of Aquila and in the Vulgate where a similar sentiment is conveyed.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

The Divine Wisdom calls out to all, making Her voice resonate across the landscape. Elevated on high hills, She boldly shares Her teachings through Her devoted servants; these messengers do not conceal their message from the people. With courage, they present themselves openly, striving to be visible to all, akin to watchmen stationed atop walls and towers who signal impending threats or important information needed by the inhabitants below. In the midst of their journey, they stand ready to guide.

The teachings of Divine Wisdom differ radically from those found in any philosophical institution, which often limits access to an elite few while excluding the masses. Rather, Divine Wisdom welcomes crowds, intentionally positioning Herself at crossroads where many travelers gather. Through the voices of Her servants, She earnestly calls upon all—regardless of their education, wealth, or status, whether young or old, male or female—to heed Her instructions. No one will be turned away; the increasing number of listeners enriches the experience, much like the flow of pedestrians at a crossroads. The illuminating light of truth emanating from Divine Wisdom enlightens every individual.
