The entrance to the strong signifies either what empowers them, their particular need for strength, or the presence of divine guidance provided by mentors. Those positioned at the threshold can hear its exaltation, as it is stated that songs are offered during departures from wickedness and arrivals into righteousness.

"The Lord created me at the beginning of His ways, the first of His works." The original Hebrew text uses the term ‘kanani,’ meaning ‘acquired,’ which suggests that instead of the Greek term εκτισε (created), a more accurate rendering is εκτησατο (possessed), as noted by the early Church Fathers in their disputes with the Arians, and echoed in various translations, including Aquila and the Vulgate.

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

He will take His seat at the gates of the mighty. This signifies that Divine Wisdom, expressed through the voices of leaders—specifically judges and those who govern at the entrances of their households—impartially delivers just verdicts and decisions to the citizens who seek fairness and truth from them. At the threshold, the melody of Wisdom resonates; her voice can also be discerned in the public gatherings occurring at the entrances of cities or villages. These assemblies may be boisterous, yet amid the clamor of casual chatter and disputes, the resonant teachings and uplifting messages from the mouths of passionate advocates and emissaries of Divine Wisdom are proclaimed just as powerfully, akin to a thunderous chorus (cf. Proverbs 1:22).
