The Spirit of sevenfold power declared through the prophets everything that would come to pass, and by His voice produced testimony in the world.
But John says that, when he wished to write down the many things spoken by the voices of the thunders, that is, everything foretold obscurely in the Old Testament, he was forbidden to write.
He was told to cease and to lay it aside until the proper time. After the apostles, consolation was given to the churches already confirmed in the faith through the interpretation of the prophecies of the Holy Scriptures.
Their interpreters are called prophets. For the Apostle says, "And God has appointed in the Church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers" (1 Cor 12:28), and so forth.

And elsewhere he says, "Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge" (1 Cor 14:29). He also says, "Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head" (1 Cor 11:5).
When Paul says, "Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge," he is not speaking of unheard and unknown catholic prophecies, but of those already given.
The others judge whether the interpretation agrees with the testimonies of the prophecies named. Christian prophets did not give new prophecies, but reinterpreted the predictions of the Old Testament.
