Andrew of Caesarea
This beast is Satan, slain by the Cross of Christ. He will come to life again at the end of the world and, through the false signs and wonders of the Antichrist, will try to cast down the Cross.
He acted before the Cross, but now he is not, for he has been weakened by the sufferings of the Savior. He has been deprived of the dominion he had over the nations through their idol worship.
At the end of the world he will come up from the abyss, or from that place where he was shut up after his condemnation. The demons begged Christ not to send them there, but rather to cast them into the herd of swine (cf. Lk 8:30-33).

Those whose names are not written in the book of the eternally living, and who did not recognize the Antichrist from Christ’s predictions, will marvel at the coming of the beast and at his false wonders.
They will marvel, not understanding why he has again received his former authority.
Because of the false wonders, he says, those who are not written in the book of the eternally living will marvel at the coming of the beast. These are those who have not studied him from Christ’s predictions.
They will marvel, considering also how he has again received his former authority.
