Ephraem the Syrian
Let Tamar celebrate the fact that the Lord came and revealed her name to the child born from her transgression. Indeed, the name she bestowed upon him (See Gen. 38:29) called out to You for Your response. You, who honorably esteemed wives who faced shame, You who bestow purity to all creation! She has, in her own way, gently seized that which leads to the kingdom. Though her life was taken away, the sword could not claim her. Ruth, out of devotion, reclined beside the man on the threshing floor; her love fueled her courage for Your sake, O You who inspire bravery in all who seek repentance. Her ears were closed to the distractions of others, longing solely to hear Your voice.

Like a smoldering ember that ignites, she approached Boaz, lay with him, and beheld the High Priest, within whom the fire of incense was concealed (See Ruth 4:12). Eagerly, she played the part of a heifer for Boaz, destined to bear You, O Fatted Calf! She sought to gather ears of grain out of love for You, collecting straw. In due time, her humility was rewarded: instead of mere ears of wheat, You brought forth Roots of Kings, and from straw, You produced the Sheaf of Life.
