Ephraem the Syrian
Let Tamar rejoice for the Lord revealed her name to the son born of her transgression. Indeed, the name she chose (See Gen. 38:29) called upon You to come to her. You, who honor the noble wives cast aside for Your glory, You who grant purity to all! In her own manner, she has tactfully taken from You, the one who forges the path to the heavenly kingdom! For her act of life was seized, and the sword could not bring her demise. Ruth lay beside the man on the threshing floor out of her love for You; her affection emboldened her, O You who instill bravery in all who turn back to You. Her ears sought not the sounds of others, but were devoted to hearing Your voice.

Like a smoldering ember ignited, she approached Boaz, reclined beside him, and beheld the High Priest, within whose loins lay the hidden fire of incense (See Ruth 4:12). She was swift and a heifer for Boaz, destined to bear You, O Abundant Calf! She went to gather ears for the sake of Your love; she collected straw. In return for her humility, You blessed her abundantly: not mere ears of grain, but Royal Roots; not straw, but the Sheaf of Life, You brought forth from her.
