Daniel inquired of the king, who then appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as overseers of the governance of Babylon. Meanwhile, Daniel continued to serve in the royal court. He did not forget his companions who had prayed to the Lord alongside him and faced peril. Consequently, he assigned them as local governors while he remained in the presence of the king.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

And Daniel found himself in the king's presence. This aligns with the teachings of the Apostle, who states: ‘Now abide faith, hope, love, these three: but greater than these is love’ (1 Cor. 13:13). This holy Prophet devoted himself to God wholeheartedly, with all his heart, soul, strength, and might; his fervent love fueled his genuine faith, and this sincere faith led him to trust in God's assistance. Upon receiving the anticipated aid, he extended love to his neighbors, inviting them to share in the blessings he had received. Indeed, ‘whatsoever things were written beforehand, in our punishment were written beforehand: that through patience and comfort of the Scriptures we may have hope’ (Rom. 15:4) in Christ Jesus, to whom be glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever! Amen.
