Theodoret of Cyrus
The king responded, saying, Truly, I realize that you are intent on buying time, for you see that the matter has escaped me. But if you will not reveal the dream to me, then I understand that your words are untrue and corrupt, and you will conspire against me until the opportunity has passed. Reveal to me my dream, and then we will know that you can also explain its meaning. The demand in these statements is both unreasonable and irrational, yet the king’s accusation is valid: you desire to uncover the dream so that, together, you might concoct a deceptive interpretation to mislead me as is customary, relying on the passage of time to aid your ruse. Upon hearing this, the Chaldeans—who likely felt a sense of boldness before the king—gave a firm response, firmly refusing to recall the dream.
